Recently received a copy of market reports from Amarillo Texas and Iowa Des Moines. While all cattle are sold in cents per lbs, the conversion seems to indicate that in terms of the bottom line the producers in those markets are receiving many more dollars than our cattle growers.
Of more interest was a mention in the Amarillo report that lightweight calves and thin cows continue to flow into all auctions in the southern plains as the drought continues. Many producers are now selling their entire herds.
The comment goes on further to say that in the opinion of the market reporter, it will take years for this part of America to recover from the drought and rebuild their herds.
Further on the United States beef front, their export surge continues unabated.
Export volumes have risen substantially and price values are even stronger.
One of the driving factors in all of this is the very weak American dollar which allows them to be ultra competitive.

Richie Ridge has for many years been the official recorder of price for Dubbo City Council at Troy Stockmarkets.
Among his other chores was to maintain the momentum of the sale, and on rare occasions if any auctioneer was outside his allowed time, he had the authority to blow that selling team off and move on to the next agent on the roster.
Ritchie did his job very well and was always very fair in his assessment of whether or not an auctioneer was giving the job his best shot.
Some days an auctioneer will struggle if he encounters a tough market combined with excessive lots. As he strives to achieve the best possible results for his clients, time has a habit of slipping away.
Ritchie was aware of these problems and I personally feel he was at all times fair in his assessment of the situation. Hopefully the gentleman will enjoy a long and happy retirement.

Dubbo Saleyard on Thursday August 4 saw a draw of almost 4000 prime cattle and the following day the agents involved in the store cattle sale drew for 3200 head.
Do not be surprised in the near future to see a sheep and lamb sale draw in excess of 45,000 head if we do not receive some rain in the near future.
