First sale of year a double-header

First sale of year a double-header

When we mentioned forthcoming sale dates that should be put in the diary for Dubbo Saleyards, we forgot to note one important sale.

I refer to the fact that the sale at Troy on Thursday January 5 2012 will be a double header.

This means that on this day we will have a prime cattle sale commencing at 8am followed by a prime sheep and lamb sale commencing at 12pm.

The reason for this sequence of events is that Monday is the day after New Year’s Day, consequently no livestock sales will be held on that particular Monday.

Talking sales the Dubbo store selling group apparently have a very attractive line-up of cattle for their last store sale of the year to be held on Friday December 16 commencing 11am.

Full details and contact numbers will be forthcoming in the next edition of The Land newspaper.

Analysts are predicting that lamb exports to South East Asia will continue to grow and as we enter Greater China’s peak lamb consumption period, the experts predict that 2011 may set a new record for exports.

Until the end of October lamb exports to this area have increased by 16 per cent to 32,629 tonnes for the 10 months of the calendar year.

This jump in imports has pushed this part of the world to our second biggest market for lamb products, running second to the United States which took 32,982 tonnes for the same period.

Have just this moment finished selling prime cattle at Dubbo on Thursday December 8 and what a great market it was.

Best bulls 170c/kg plus, top cows selling to 170c/kg plus, plain cows with frame realising mid to high 140c best feeder steers from 205c to 235c depending on weight and quality.

Best heavy steers to kill 210c plus, quality restockers steers sold from 245c to 265c and probably made more in places.

Young lightweight calves in our run made to 435c/kg liveweight.

As I did not see all the sale by any means some of the abovementioned prices may have been eclipsed many times over.

The unseasonable start to summer with almost winter time temperature has probably been a boom to graziers with clovers and pasture still looking as fresh as a daisy, but has been absolutely a potential disaster for croppers.

The cold weather combined with intermittent rain has been no help whatsoever.

The latest BOM rainfall outlook indicates a strong chance of above average rainfall for most of eastern Australia for December to February 2012.

Received a fax from Scott Sinclair Richardson and Sinclair Dubbo advising that their young livestock salesman Justin Sanderson has been selected to represent his company and Dubbo in the NSW Young Auctioneers competition in Sydney during the 2012 Royal Easter Show.

Justin who has only recently turned 21 is the fourth generation of the family to have been involved in our industry.

How times have changed with these young fellows now receiving tuition on correct diction, selling techniques, along with speech therapy and controlled breathing.

Congratulations to Justin and the Dubbo agents wish him great success.
