Recently the writer had an audit from the MLA regarding the use of livestock and farm chemicals, NVDs and all the documentation that goes with such an investigation. Not being a very good record keeper the writer was a touch apprehensive about the whole procedure and the possible outcome of this comprehensive audit.
To my total surprise the auditor Mr Ron Anderson was very impressive in his total professionalism, his ability to sympathise with my lack of bookkeeping expertise and his overall willingness to explain and help me prepare better if a follow-up audit was to occur in the future.
The day was very educational and provided a grazier has a basic grasp of his or hers obligations should not be reason for any concern.

The general feeling seems to be that meat companies will kill much closer to the Christmas break this year than what they have done in the past. Reasoning behind this move appears to be twofold.
Cattle and lambs combined seem to be in short supply as producers battle with widespread rain and the necessity when dry days do present themselves, the graziers need to harvest as much grain as possible.
This shortening in the supply chain has forced processors to go harder and longer to fulfil their advanced orders. Secondly and more importantly for the processor their appears to good returns at their end as world demand particularly for beef is on the up and up.

Earlier we spoke on forthcoming sale dates of importance one that was missed in the count was the next Narromine Store Sheep sale.
The store selling group for this centre will hold their final sale for the year on Wednesday December 21 and it should be a sale really worth attending for those graziers looking for restocking units to capitalise on the magnificent summer that appears to be in front of us.

Landmark has secured the sale rights of the Yambinya Feedlot in the Southern Riverina of NSW. The feedlot owned by one of our major processor and feedlotters is for sale, by expression of interest which close on December 30 with the selling agents.
The current capacity is listed at 13,000 head cattle and 40,000 lambs. The 6800 acre property has all the bells and whistles needed to run a successful feedlot of this size.
With the world currently in a frenzy to achieve “food security” you would think that an operation of this scale would attract overseas interest unless the local industry gets in first. No doubt any foreign interest would need government approval.
