A loud voice and a passion for volunteering have driven Lee Judd of Dubbo to the front.
Ms Judd was recently announced as the networking group Women Out West’s Ambassador Award for the Orana and Central West’s most outstanding woman.
Ms Judd said she saw the award as a responsibility as well as an honour.
“I do take it seriously; it is a serious thing to be a good role model,” she said.
Ms Judd is already a role model to several future women out west, as the district leader of the Girl Guides.
She said one of her goals in this role is to encourage the girls to try their best and try new experiences, whether they are new activities or new foods.
“So long as the girls give it a go, it doesn’t matter if they don’t achieve it,” she said.
Ms Judd said the western area of NSW is bucking the trend for Girl Guide’s, with numbers growing locally, while they generally decline.
“We’re showing that girls can achieve,” she said.
“It’s not just knitting and cooking anymore, there is leadership and skills training.
“We enable the girls to be themselves and we encourage them to do more, bring out the best in them.”
This same spirit is also used by Ms Judd in her business activities.
She is the practice manager of Goldenwest Financial Solutions and an active member of women in business networking connections.
Ms Judd said the women networking groups in the country are more effective than those in the city.
“You get to know each other,” she said.
Ms Judd said strong women in all sorts of businesses are nothing new.
“The WOW awards are just recognition for something that we’ve always done,” she said.
“Women have been working on farms and elsewhere, now we’re just getting recognised for it.”
