Good results at Gulgong

31 Jan, 2012 09:44 AM
The Australian Wiltipoll Association held their third annual NSW-Qld Combined Breeders Wiltipoll sale at the Gulgong showground on Saturday January 21 where they had 88 entries.

Association sub-committee chair Genevieve Starr said that while one was withdrawn, the remaining 87 were all sold which was a big improvement on last year.

Peter Colless, Wingham, has again topped the sale for the third year in a row with one of his rams selling for $1900. While this was down from his top price last year, the three rams he included in the sale all made more than $1500.

Robert Miller, Dubbo, sold his ram for $1550 while Paul Brady, Bathurst, and Ian Hopwood, Murringo, sold their rams for $1450 and $1200 respectively.

Mrs Starr said there were many more entries that made more than $1000 compared to the 2011 sale.

Peter Colless and Robert Miller also gained top prices for their ewes, both receiving $650. The average for Wiltipoll ewes on the day was $456 which, again, was down on last year.

Rita Hough, Eumungerie, averaged $300 for her commercial ewes.

Mrs Starr said that while individual prices were down on last year, more entries and bigger clearance of 98 per cent of stock brought averages up.

With buyers comming from Victoria and even Tasmania to purchase Wiltipolls, Mrs Starr commendedGulgong for being so welcoming and maintaining its 'lovely little parade area'.

"It was a stronger sale with a greater clearance than last year," Mrs Starr said. 'Gulgong will definitely be home to our sales as it is a very welcoming place."
