Passion pays off

Juggling a variety of enterprises within a farm system can often be difficult to manage but the team at Gooree Park in Mudgee have been considering this as a great challenge and always strive to excel in all areas of their operation.

The Gooree Park Group of Companies is most famous for their champion racehorses but, more recently, have become widely known as a producer of good quality Australian wines.

As well as thoroughbred racehorses and fine wines, Gooree Park is also home to over 3,000 Wagyu, Angus and Wagyu Angus cross cattle and also over 3,000 pure Merino, and first cross lambs.

They also produce lucerne not only to generate their own quality hay for feed purposes but also to sell commercially.

Gooree Park owner, Mr Eduardo Cojuangco, is incredibly passionate about his horses but is a true farmer at heart, describes Gooree Park Business Manager, Jeanette Tioseco.

"The Gooree Park Group of Companies is about 70 percent stud operations, 20 percent cattle and sheep and 10 percent vineyard and wines," Mrs Tioseco said.

In 1996, the Tullamour and Fords Creek Vineyards were established in Mudgee and in 1998, Mt Lewis vineyard was established in Canowindra. It was in 2008 that the Gooree Park cellar door was opened."

Gooree Park wines have become a sought after product, especially in the scenic Mudgee region. Like any other wineries, Gooree Park is also facing the challenges brought about by the global over supply of grapes but is hopeful that, out of these challenges, new opportunities can be created.

"It's a test of how long the piece of string is with the industry. At this stage it is really not economically viable for most of the grape growers. You really have to update your projections from time to time and hope that the industry will turn around sooner rather than later."

On a brighter note, the cattle and lamb prices have been on the high side for quite some time now and Gooree Park's quality cattle and lamb will continue to be highly valued within the farming system.

Gooree Park has over 45 staff employed within their group of companies who are dedicated to Gooree Park's mission of achieving excellence in all endeavours.

The staff at Gooree Park devote equal time and focus to each enterprise, ensuring that each section of the system is of the highest possible quality.

Mixing enterprises within this farming system has proved to be lucrative and economical.

This, along with passionate and dedicated staff, is a vital key to success within the Gooree Park Group of Companies.
