Retailers from IGA made the donation to help ease the hardships being felt by farming families affected by recent droughts, with much of the money going to farmers across NSW.
Aussie Helpers founder Brian Egan was grateful for the donation.
“It really is a great thing that will help lift their spirits,” he said.
As the money that is given to the farming families is for vouchers at their local supermarket outlet, the money will remain in the town, which Mr Egan believed was important.
“As the farmers haven’t had an income, it’s as much a struggle for the businesses in the towns,” he said.
“This will hopefully help the next generations of workers as well, as without money and jobs they are forced to leave those communities.”
Aussie Helpers will split the funds and provide farming families with a $100 IGA food voucher to spend on household essentials or treats as part of the organisation’s aim to ‘help fight poverty in the bush’.
The money was raised through IGA Community Chest, which raises funds to support local charities in their communities and other worthwhile causes.
