The family of a Wellington man who was killed in a farming accident last month have penned a heartfelt thank you to the community in the wake of their loss.
The Willis family have been plagued by heartbreak following the sudden death, but wished to thank the communities of Wellington and Dubbo for joining them in farewelling their loved one.
Ash Willis' sister, Carolyn, put together the following words of thanks on behalf of her family for a man who touched the lives of people from across the country.
“Ash Willis, the greatest brother, father, son and mate anyone could ask for. Always a part of our lives and in our hearts forever.
On behalf of the Willis family, I would like to thank relatives and friends who travelled from all parts of Australia, along with the business in Wellington and Dubbo, who closed their doors, joining us in farewelling our Ash.
I would like to make special mention of the following people, who without their help, we would not have been able to have had such a special farewell for our Ash.
Melissa and Hilton Barrett. Without Melissa’s organisation of us, we would not have had such a special farewell.
Sharon Ogden and the team of H Logue and Sons. Sharon went above and beyond her duties, for this we are very grateful.
Ken Blackburn, who with strength as a close mate of Ash’s, guided us through our farewell. Keep up the singing Kenny, Ash is singing along with you.
Ash’s lifelong mates, known as ‘The Boys’. Thank you for sharing your memories of Ash with us.
Rob Armstrong, for your poem, The Contractor. Which you sat down and wrote when you heard the news. Through your words, we see our Ash. Thank you for this beautiful keepsake.
Bree’s friends, who came and supported her, and who are continuing to support her, as she gets back into her school days.
St Mary’s Catholic School parents and friends, who provided refreshments and served them with such love.
We were not surprised by the number of people who joined us in farewelling our Ash and thank everyone who in memory of Ash, wore red, denim and boots (clean or dirty).
Thank you for the flowers, food, cards, emails, texts, phone calls and visits, to Alison, Bree, my Mum, Dad, Josh, Dean and myself.
Thank you to my group of friends and my family, who gave and continue to give their love and support.
We have been deeply touched by all the love and support we have and continue to receive, at this difficult time.
I love you and miss you every day, life just won’t be the same without you Ash…Cone xx”
