BIG DAY: The Brian Unthank Rural selling team was in the thick of the action at the Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange, Wodonga this week.

Monday, August 7

Lamb numbers eased as wet weather effected the supply.

New season lambs improved in numbers to 2020 head and there were fewer old trade weights.

Heavy lambs were still in reasonable numbers. The quality of the yarding was good.

The tight supply resulted in a dearer market. New season trade weights lifted $9 to $14, selling from $138 to $167 and a pen of extra heavy lambs reached $189.20/head.

Most averaged between 670c and 680c/kg cwt. Old lambs lifted $9 to $12 with the light 2 score processing lambs ranging from $88 to $111/head. The medium and heavy trade weights sold from $124 to $158/head averaging 650c/kg cwt.

Heavy old lambs received from $148 to $174 and a pen of extra heavy lambs topped the market at $219.20/head.

Heavy lambs averaged 615c to 640c/kg cwt. Merino trade weights sold to $129/head.

Mutton numbers were similar and the quality was improved.

Prices lifted $20/head on average with a limited supply. Medium weight ewes sold from $92 to $119/head.

Heavy crossbred ewes reached $137 and heavy Merino ewes ranged from $123 to $135/head. Most averaged between 430c to 460c/kg cwt.

WAGGA

Thursday, August 10

Numbers declined and quality was mixed, with producers still continuing to offload secondary type old lambs. In the offering agents yarded just over 7000 new season lambs and quality was excellent with the bulk of the young lambs suiting domestic processors. The usual export and domestic buyers were in attendance and most companies were operating, however some major processors were very selective across older lamb categories. New season lambs were in greater numbers and quality was excellent. Buyers were more subdued to the previous sale and prices eased by $5/head. Trade lambs sold from $128 to $154/head to average 620c/kg cwt. Heavy young lambs were in limited supply selling from $156 to $166/head. Merino trade lambs were in reasonable supply making from $113 to $153.60/head. Light lambs to the processors sold $5 to $11 dearer making from $96 to $126/head. Heavy lambs were in reasonable numbers and quality was very good, with plenty of lambs weighing an estimated 30kg plus. Heavy sheep sold to stronger bidding to lift $13 and some sales were $17/head dearer, to average 439c to 480/kg cwt.
