A great vintage: Three events sold out weeks ahead of 2017 Orange Wine Festival | Graph

Three events have sold out weeks ahead of this year’s Orange Wine Festival – with others also selling stronger than last year’s events.

President of the Orange Region Vignerons Association [ORVA], the wine show organisers, Justin Jarrett, said the Wine in the Vines event plus two long lunches at Ross Hill Wines and Angullong Wines had already sold out.

Mr Jarrett said 190 of the 300 tickets available for the Orange Wine Show Tasting [OWST], which has moved to the Hotel Canobolas from the Orange Showground agricultural pavilion this year, were also sold which was ahead of last year’s sales.

He said the event had been moved into town to allow people to dine at Orange restaurants afterwards, ease the burden on volunteers to set up the venue and to support businesses who sold local wines.

“It takes a lot of effort for the volunteers to set up the show tasting,” he said.

Mr Jarrett said the Vino Express train from Sydney had only nine of the 40 seats unsold – which was already well up on last year’s sales.

Orange Wine Festival events with tickets still available:

  • Wine and Food Night Market: 5.30pm-8.30pm, October 20, Robertson Park, entry via gold coin.
  • Orange Wine Show tasting: 5.30pm-8.30pm, October 13, Hotel Canobolas. $50 or $55 with spiegelau glass.

Wine show organiser Justin Byrne said the Orange Wine Show had received 312 entries.

  • Orange Wine Show masterclasses (in conjunction with tasting): 5.45pm and 7.30pm, October 13, Hotel Canobolas. $65 or $70 with spiegelau glass.
  • Boree Lane Ramble: Sample food and wines. Departs Orange Wine Centre at 11am, finishes at 4.30pm, October 14. $120.

“We have really strong local entries in the sparkling category and also very strong entries for white wines across the main classes of riesling, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and chardonnay,” he said.

“Our largest class of [red] entries received is for shiraz.”

The show wines will be available for sampling at the OWST. Winemaker Will Rickard-Bell will conduct two wine masterclasses at the event.

The Wine and Food Night Market is on Friday October 20 in Robertson Park.
