A central west family have been named as the 2018 Prime Lamb Hoof and Hook competition winners.

Nick and Mary Mason and Matt and Kelly Mason, from Westwood Grazing Co., Spicers Creek, near Wellington, won the prestigious title at the annual event which was held at the Dubbo Show on Friday.

The Mason’s entered three pens.

They have been entering the competition since it first began. Matt said it was a “good feeling” to win and to benchmark their lambs against others in the industry.

“We entered to see how we’re going within the industry,” he said.

“So it’s good to see we’re on the right track.

“For us we try to do the right thing by customers.. that’s what we’re all about.”

This year’s results and presentation was followed by the auction of donated pens of lambs.

Prime Lamb committee member David Amor said despite the rain and windy weather it was a great turnout.

“It’s great that people have turned up and supported it,” he said during the event.

“Everything is selling and going to different charities.”

A total of $24,850 was raised from the charity auction, which has been spread among 17 various charities.
