The community of Forbes will receive a boost in support later this year when charity organisation Rural Aid brings its Farm Rescue program to town.

The aim of the week long event is to repair and renovate 10 local properties.

Rural Aid co-founder Charles Alder said they hope to get 10 to 15 volunteers to work on each of the 10 farms.

As well as fencing, painting and other house work, Mr Alder said they have also been in contact with other organisations to hopefully do repairs to farm machinery.

But it’s not just the rural residents they hope to help, Mr Alder said Rural Aid will put on a movie night each night of the week and the entire Forbes community was welcome to attend.

Mr Alder has big plans to get media outlets involved to bring even more attention to the plight of the drought.

“It’s going to be a massive week,” he said.

“And I’d love to see a convoy of camper vans, RVs and more turn up.”

While the event is still a few months away, Mr Alder hopes to get a country music star to perform at one of the five movie nights, plus local businesses to run barbecues.

It’s a great initiative, but one that takes months of planning.

Mr Alder said Rural Aid could do more Farm Rescues, if the funding and man power were available.

The charity is now calling on farmers in the Forbes district to register to be a recipient of the week.

They will then review the jobs submitted, have a builder check out the work sites and Rural Aid will choose the accepted properties on an event in Forbes on August, 10.

The Forbes Mega Farm Rescue event will take place between October, 14 to 20.
