The heart-safe city campaign, started by the Australian Red Cross Dubbo, aims to installed automated external defibrillators no more than two minutes apart in the city’s high traffic areas.

There have been 22 AEDs already donated, but first aid trainer George Chapman said he needs six more to completely cover Macquarie Street.

The three defibrillators to be installed this week were donated by the Dubbo Uniting Church, Community Men’s Shed and jointly from the Garden Hotel and the Garden Hotel Fishing Club.

They will be installed at Mr Bean’s Coffee Emporium, the Amaroo Hotel and the Garden Hotel.

Mal Maas said the Garden Hotel wanted to install one of the defibrillators so it would be on hand if it was needed at the skate park, the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre or the ovals.

Dubbo Community Men Shed president Eric Chamberlain said the community had supported them and donating the money for an AED was a way they could give back to the community.

The Rotary Club of Dubbo have launched an appeal for donations towards the installation of more defibrillator units.

Donations to the appeal can be made at the Regional Australia Bank or by direct deposit using BSB number 932 000 and account number 100 380 639. The donor’s name should be used as a reference.
