The Springwaters Poll Dorset stud at Boorowa will offer 180 rams at its annual ram sale, held on property at Corcorans Plains, Boorowa on September 28.

This stud is committed to breeding rams with an absolute focus on profit drivers for commercial clients. Early maturity, heavy muscling, consistency and constitution are the primary breeding objectives, and are displayed in the 2018 sale rams.

Springwaters rams are renowned for their high growth rates at an early age, making them ideal for sucker production, while maintaining market flexibility to ensure producers have options at sale time. Again in 2018, the flock rams have been finished on grass, without grain supplementation, so purchasers can be confident muscling and carcase shape in sale rams will be displayed in the progeny.

Springwaters’ Rowley family supplys rams to producers throughout the state.

“We focus on breeding commercial rams. It’s nice to come up with a few elite animals, but for us, it’s about putting together a line of rams from lot 1 to lot 175,” co-principle Dane Rowley said. “We are selling more rams to clients who take a very professional approach to prime lamb production, and they are giving us a lot of feedback that helps us align our breeding program with their bottom line.”

Headlining this year’s sale will be sons of the elite stud sire team. Springwaters 310-14 will have a great line up of sons, including 310 bred Springwaters ‘Pocock’, who’s been used widely throughout the Poll Dorset breed.

Last year, 310 had 45 sons for sale, including the top priced lot 1, who sold for $16,000. Again in 2018, 310 will have a large group of sons, throughout the stud and flock rams, displaying the muscling, bone and constitution evident in his 2017 sale sons.

This year’s sale will also feature the first sons of Abelene Park Investment, purchased by Springwaters for $24,000 in 2016. Investment has bred an excellent line of sheep in his first year of production, displaying added length and power, with excellent shoulder settings.

Record lamb prices for heavy lambs and trade lambs are being achieved regularly, with reports of Springwaters sired lambs being sold over the hooks for up to $8.40/kg.

“The lamb industry has a really optimistic outlook, we want to  provide our clients with an opportunity to have a look at the next group of rams we have available. It also offers producers who haven't bought our rams before a chance to inspect our sheep, to come to the sale and have a look at what we have to offer,” he said.

Existing and potential clients can inspect Springwaters rams, which will be penned from 10:30am on sale day for a 1pm start. Prior private inspection of stud and flock rams is welcome.
