The emergency call was received at 5.30am on Friday to a property on the Mitchell Highway, mid-way between Narromine and Trangie.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Zone Commander Superintendent Garry Barber said a large, underground container of oil had caught alight on a cotton processing plant.
“There’s a fire in an oil vat or tank that is underground in an isolated area,” he said.
“It’s contained to that oil and the guys are using foam to extinguish it.”
Superintendent Barber said there are five crews of FRNSW firefighters on site, along with multiple NSW Rural Fire Service crews.
There have been no injuries and at this stage there is no information on whether any parts of the property have been damaged or destroyed.
