A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Central West with heavy rain expected to hit the region in coming hours.

The alert was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology just after 2pm on Tuesday.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours,” the warning said.
The alert comes following a number of severe thunderstorms that have already swept through the region so far this year leaving a trail of damage in Parkes and Dubbo on January 22.
Another storm in Bathurst on January 28 left thousands of people without power, trees down and a business with flood damage.
The State Emergency Service (SES) advises that people should:
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
- If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
- Unplug computers and appliances.
- Avoid using the phone during the storm.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the NSW SES on 132 500.
