Threats to the water from coal and gas mining need to be curtailed in times of drought, says federal Greens candidate David Paull.

Mr Paull is an ecologist who operates an environmental consultancy. He lives on the land in the Warrumbungles area.

He's an advocate for increasing awareness and helping communities facing challenges to the environment and has protested Santo's coal seam gas facility in the Pilliga National Park.

"I believe in a fair go for all communities living in the Parkes electorate, particularly access to water to sustain communities into the future. Further threats to our water from coal and gas mining need to be curtailed in these times of drought," he said.

"A healthy environment, a renewable energy future and better services for regional communities in Parkes should be at the top of the list for a new Commonwealth government."

Mr Paull said he had spent most of his life trying to obtain the best outcome for sustainable development. knowing there needed to be a better balance between people and the environment.

"I believe in a fair go for all communities living in the Parkes electorate, particularly access to water to sustain communities into the future. Further threats to our water from coal and gas mining need to be curtailed in these times of drought. A healthy environment, a renewable energy future and better services for regional communities in Parkes should be at the top of the list for a new Commonwealth government."

He said key decisions, such as climate change action and protection of water could not wait any longer.
