Deliveries began a fortnight ago in the Tamworth region and have spread south to areas around Dubbo.

The aim is to deliver up to 100 million litres of water to communities in a campaign first inspired by Club North Haven on the north coast, which began a Million Litre Promise with $1 from every Iron Jack beer sold between September and December used to purchase and deliver water to farming families in their region.

The club's secretary/manager, Peter Negus, put out the call to other clubs and the industry as a whole to follow his lead.

Sydney radio station 2GB and Ray Hadley, picked up the appeal and Team Rubicon joined to help.

ClubsNSW CEO Anthony Ball said there were more than 700 registered clubs in areas impacted by drought, it was very much front of mind of the industry.

"Clubs have been leading the charge on drought relief initiatives for the past 18 months, but the provision of water has been one of the key challenges," Mr Ball said.

Team Rubicon Australia CEO Geoff Evans said the "team" had previously partnered clubs to support communities in the wake of natural disasters, and were really pleased to be teaming up again to assist those devastated by the drought.

"Water deliveries will not only have a huge practical benefit to those dealing with the scarcity of water, it will provide an enormous psychological boost to know others are thinking of them," Mr Evans said.

As deliveries rolled out around Tamworth, the first were piped into empty water tanks on Ballimore homesteads and further afield mid-last week in the Dubbo region.

Dubbo Regional Council is providing an estimated free six million litres of potable water to assist the relief project worth approximately $25,000.

Litres for the Land is sending water tankers to properties across the state to many areas in coming weeks.

Registered clubs are also seeking donations from the public via the www.litresfortheland.com.au website.
