Despite the hot and smokey conditions, 78 golfers took part in the three man ambrose tournament. However it was Peter Tresseder and his crew who took out the prize money.
Event organiser Shane Dalton said the fundraiser was off to a flying start, raising $4000 over the day, with $2500 donated to the McGrath Foundation, and $1500 left for the winner of the pigeon race.
The highest paid bird of the evening was pigeon Shane Warne, purchased for $300 by Sam Wade.
Mr Dalton said it was a wonderful way to kick off the festival, and thanked the support of the Narromine Golf Club for providing the venue and refreshments, Narromine Shire Council for supplying the entertainment by Sam Coon, and Tooheys New for sponsoring and providing prizes.

"I just look around, and I've been doing it for ten years and the same people just help all the time and they don't get sick of it," Mr Dalton said.
"The generosity is unbelievable."
Currently there are two breast care nurses in Dubbo, but Mr Dalton said he hoped with the funds raised from the festival, they would get a third in 2020.
"It just goes to show country people are on their knees, and they are on their knees, they still give that little bit extra," he said.
"That's the difference between the city and the country."
