Killing Heidi's triumphant reunion has dazzled audiences across the country and for the first time since 2007, the energetic rock band is returning to Bathurst for next month's Inland Sea of Sound festival.

The group reformed in 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their formation and for lead vocalist Ella Hooper, it felt like the right time to return.

"We've been pleasantly surprised with the response to our reunion, and it has been an incredible experience to embrace these songs again," Hooper said.

"The shows have allowed us to take ownership of this experience we had as young people and relive it through older and wiser eyes."

This year marks 20 years since the release of Killing Heidi's groundbreaking debut album, Reflector, which spawned the singles 'Weir' and 'Mascara' and went five times platinum in Australia.

Hooper said it was initially a challenge to return to her roots.

"The biggest challenge for me was even wanting to inhabit everything from the past again, but it has been really powerful and I enjoy putting my 90s/early 2000s boots on to perform every weekend," she said.

"I think I've secured what 'Ella Hooper' means away from Killing Heidi enough to feel comfortable placing that hat on again."

Hooper wrote much of Killing Heidi's material with her brother and bandmate, Jesse Hooper, and she said the pair share a unique songwriting bond.

"We have very similar musical bones in our songwriting brains, and Jesse makes a lot of room for the singer in the way he writes," she said.

"It works together really well and I love singing on top of Jesse's riffs."

While no new material is on the cards from the group, Hooper said "never say never."

"It's definitely a possibility, but it would have to be something that furthers our story," she said of the approach to new material.

"Who knows, the answer could be completely different by the end of the year."

Ella and Jesse Hooper will be joined on stage at Inland Sea of Sound by original drummer Adam Pedretti, bassist Tim Curnick and keyboardist Clio Renner.

"Expect a sh*t hot band providing a show full of fun, energy and familiarity," Hooper said.

Killing Heidi will perform at Inland Sea of Sound on Friday, February 28.
