Riders came from across the central west, plus as far as Inverell and the Hunter Valley to compete in the three day event from February 21-23.
The western-style equestrian sport caters for riders of all abilities from beginner to the seasoned and expert horse person.
It sees riders race against the clock as they separate cattle into pens.
The competition first began at Dubbo in 2016 and has grown in popularity, so much so that in 2017 organisers included a fourth event in the series.
Ranch Sorting Dubbo club secretary Cindy Henderson said the first 2020 competition went really well, with competitors having a great time over the weekend.
About 100 competitors took part in 900 runs over the three days, she said.
Despite the ongoing dry conditions, the organiser said they have been very lucky with cattle thanks to regular donors.
Ms Henderson said they received a lovely message from a young girl whose father competes in ranch sorting.
"She thanked us for running the event and said she believed it helped her dad get through the drought," Ms Henderson explained.
"Which I thought was just absolutely beautiful."

Ms Henderson said it's everyone that comes on board to get the event up and running who are making a difference in people's lives.
The ranch sorting organiser also thanked the volunteers for giving up their time.
"We cannot do it without them," Ms Henderson said.
"It's a massive effort and we're just lucky that we've got a great crew that all come together to make it happen."
The second of the 2020 Ranch Sorting Dubbo Series will be held from May 8-10 at the Dubbo Showgrounds.
