The pandemic has curtailed much of the Mudgee Lions Club's activities, however, their work for the local community is coming roaring back - with a firewood project and planning underway to bring back the markets next month.

Rain on Sunday was no problem for the 12 Lions, who were joined by and a group of 15 volunteers from Glencore's Ulan Underground operation, to help cut, load and deliver the firewood to 18 residents in Mudgee, Gulgong, Mt Knowles, Yarrawonga and Queens Pinch.

The timber is an older supply and is no longer appropriate for use at the mining operation, so it was donated by to the community by Glencore. With help from the Walker family with the cutting of the timber struts into firebox sized logs.

Mudgee Lions president David expressed his sincere appreciation to all those who turned up to help on a pretty ordinary day to assist with the project.

More delivery days are planned for next month.

During the virus lockdown, which precluded all of its usual activities, the Mudgee Lions Club have been taking part in the Calare Community Care initiative. This involved making welfare calls to isolated and lonely residents in the area - a project introduced and coordinated by the office of the Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee.

And it's been a long time between events, but the local Lions Club is planning to restart its Lawson Park Community Markets on Saturday, August 8, 2020, under its Council-approved COVID-19 plan.

Details of the new requirements will be able to be accessed on the Club's Facebook page by the end of the month. All potential stallholders are requested to make themselves familiar with these when they become available, for non-Facebook users the Lions can also be contacted by calling (02) 6373 3374 or by emailing redelstone@gmail.com.
