Two charged following investigation into drug supply in Walgett

A man and a woman have been charged with drug-related offences following an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs near Walgett.

Officers attached to Central North Police District established Strike Force Chollerford in July to investigate the supply of illicit drugs in the Walgett and surrounding areas.

About 7.30am on October 21, police arrested a 47-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman at a home on Arthur Street in Walgett.

During a search of the home police seized 11 grams of cannabis and cash.

They were taken to Walgett Police Station where they were charged with multiple drug-related offences.

The man was charged with the following 12 offences including:

  • Supply cannabis - less than commercial quantity
  • Take part in supply prohibited drug - less than commercial quantity
  • Supply prohibited drug - small quantity (seven counts)
  • Take part supply prohibited drug - small quantity (two counts)
  • Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime

The woman was charged with the following 33 offences:

  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Supply prohibited drug
  • Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime
  • Supply cannabis - less than commercial quantity
  • Take part supply prohibited drug - less than commercial quantity
  • Supply prohibited drug - less than indictable quantity
  • Take part supply prohibited drug - less than indictable quantity
  • Take part supply prohibited drug - small quantity
  • Supply prohibited drug - small quantity (25 counts)

They were refused bail and appeared at Walgett Local Court on Thursday, where they were granted conditional bail to reappear before the same court on December 15.

Central North Police District Commander Superintendent Andrew Hurst said police would continue to work with the community to identify the supply of prohibited drugs within the area.

"I acknowledge the Walgett community members who provided information and support to the investigators as part of Strike Force Chollerford," Supt Hurst said.

"Our work is not finished; we need further information from community members about street level drug supply in Walgett."
