The JobMaker hiring credit scheme - the centrepiece of last year's federal budget - was expected to create 450,000 jobs.

But just over 1000 jobs have actually been delivered and only a tiny fraction of the money set aside has been spent.

Mr Morrison said he threw everything possible at supporting jobs throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

"Everything we could do, every tool we could bring together, we were going to put in place to support jobs in this country, and that included the hiring credits," he told parliament on Tuesday.

"When you put these measures together - I don't care whether it's the JobMaker hiring credits, the boosted apprenticeship scheme, the JobTrainer program - I don't care which of these programs delivers the result, just so long as the result is achieved."

The prime minister said the myriad of measures ensured the jobs market rebounded much stronger than expected.

He said 440,000 more people were employed in the March quarter than forecast in the last budget.

"Now that figure has a bit of a familiar ring to it, doesn't it?" Mr Morrison said.

"Whichever road we have to take to get people back in jobs, that's what my government is doing."

This year's budget includes another major funding injection for jobs and skills training.

But Labor warns the proof will be in the pudding once the delivery of the budget announcements can be properly scrutinised.
