Police were called to the Bendigo Bank branch in Fairy Meadow around 2:30pm on Tuesday after reports of an armed robbery.
The man, carrying a firearm, allegedly threatened two tellers and demanded cash.
A short time later, police also responded to reports post office employees were threatened in Woonona.
The man allegedly made off with cash from the post office, but police say it is not known what was stolen from the bank.
The man has been described as Caucasian with a heavy build and light blond scruffy hair.
He was wearing a red beanie and a black face mask, a blue check flannelette shirt, grey trackpants, white socks and white Nike slides.
Police are appealing for anyone with information, dashcam footage or CCTV to contact them.
