The Great Western Highway has reopened at Mt Lambie following a fatal crash between a truck and a car this morning.
Speed limits of 40km/h are in place and drivers are asked to be cautious in the area.
UPDATE 10.30am
Due to an incident on Pipers Flat Road, motorists have been warned there will be further delays.
It appears a truck has come off the road and will need to be removed.
Great Western Highway delays are still in place.
EARLIER
There has been a fatal crash between a truck and a car on the Great Western Highway between Lithgow and Bathurst.
The collision happened around 5.25am at Mount Lambie near Old Western Road.
NSW Police have confirmed a man has died after the head on collision between a utility and a truck.
“As a result of the crash, the utility has caught on fire and its driver has died at the scene,” police report.
“The truck driver was injured and he was assessed on site by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to hospital.”
Live traffic NSW has reported the highway is closed in both directions.
Emergency services, the RMS, Heavy Vehicle Inspector are all attending the scene.
ALSO MAKING NEWS
Diversions are Range Road, Pipers Flat Road, Wallerawang, Barton Avenue and onto the Great Western Highway for Eastbound travelers. The westbound diversion is the same but in revers.
Live traffic NSW has reported this will add about 10 minutes to travel time and is suitable for all vehicles.
Motorists are asked the use the diversions and allow extra travel time.
